Arts and Crafts Movement Refreshed

  The Huntington Library has as exhibition of the Arts and Crafts 20th century movement started by architects Charles Sumner and Henry Mather Greene. The movement  happened in southern California, were craftsmanship was shown in both architecture and in furniture pieces. The visual beauty of wood grain dominated the Arts and Crafts movement and was a key component to the design style.

The Arts and Craft Movement included lots of built in mill-work through out the home as well as paneling along the walls. Also included in this design style is beams on the ceiling. 

 A more modern take on the Arts and Craft movement can be achieved by having still all the same interesting mill-work and detail in a home and just refreshing it by having it all white. Another modern take on the movement showing off that detail in wood grain but through more contemporaneity pieces of furniture.  

The 20th century architectural elements made such and impact that it is still a very desired style of home today. It is also a very american style home and more specifically a southern California home since most of the Arts and Craft movement happened in Pasadena California. 

  Homes from this century are admired for the character and charm they exhibit. They also have great curb appeal and are very coveted style of houses by families. The Arts and Crafts movement was a staple in Arctecture and its elements are still inspiring new home design.
